Feeling Guilty For Indulging?

It’s December 26th and I want to remind you of something… it’s okay that you’re probably feeling exhausted and stuffed going back to work today. It’s not okay to dwell on it and feel guilty for enjoying yourself and the indulgences of the holiday.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Living a truly healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean it’s all clean eating and no room for desserts or a drink. Practicing healthy habits is being disciplined when you need the energy and brain power from nutrients, and embracing the joys of indulging when it’s what your soul needs. To spend today feeling guilty over what’s in the past would be the saddest waste of time- especially when it’s a fresh and new day in tradition out of the Christmas season. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Moving your body will help. Refueling with energizing food will help, but you have no power or control over something in the past. It’s time to look forward into the stereotypical season of health (and the one ray live event!).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’m all for this season of new year’s resolutions, and this year I’m going to show you my process of goal setting and achieving. But I can’t do that if we’re not on the same page- which is why I want you to have patience with yourself and recognize that holidays are designed for relaxation, and the following days and months are an opportunity to bounce back in a healthy way without losing your sanity.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Today, in your #onerayjournal, let your intention be “To gracefully transition back into my healthy habits without guilt or shame during detours.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Indulging is neither good nor bad, and to develop a solid mindset, I challenge you to look at it as another season. Winter doesn’t get offended when you say you hate it, it passes anyways. Summer isn’t automatically better bc it’s your preference, it passes anyways. I challenge you to recognize those patterns in your emotional health, as well. 🖤 Just some thoughts 💭

My Morning Cocktail

Hello my friends! I wanted to take the opportunity this week to share the story of a morning concoction that I’ve recently started that has completely CHANGED the game.

A few months ago, I stayed out of town at my aunt and uncle’s house. We were at dinner with one of my uncle’s best friends, who got into a good conversation with me about turmeric. For those of you who didn’t know, turmeric is the #1 anti-inflammatory source for our muscles and joints. Like, it’s the best thing since sliced bread and deserves WAY more credit than we give this commonly-used-in-Indian-food, very strong in flavor herb.

There are a few ways you can use this herb, whether as a powdered spice on food or off the root in a raw form in boiling water for tea, which are the two most common. My uncle’s friend, who is a very physically active person, was absolutely raving about how much better he’s felt since taking it.

So a light bulb went off in my head- if I am commonly recommending this herb to my physical therapy patients, why am not practicing it myself? You see, I have this internal rule for myself that I can’t have my PT patients do an exercise, I cannot recommend, or speak on my Maria Fitnezz platform about something that I can’t or don’t do for myself.

So I drove myself over to Heinens that next day and studied the “potions aisle” to find the perfect raw, organic turmeric powder. You guys- it’s literally vibrant burnt orange straight from the plant. I unscrewed the cap and was hit by the super, insanely strong odor…. critical yiiiiikes.

So I filled an 8 inch glass of water, mixed my burnt orange powered potion, plugged my nose, and chugged… thankfully, over the sink. This is NOT something I recommend for a first time user if you have a sensitive stomach like me. It immediately, and I mean immediately, my stomach was like “hell nah girl” and it came back up.

So maybe day 1 was not a success. But the next day I mixed the turmeric with water, plugged my nose, and it went down rough but stayed down this time… success! Each day has gotten easier, and on month 3 at this point, I am able to chug in 1 quick sip without tasting it while I wait for my morning coffee to brew.

Moral to the story- my energy levels have *drastically* changed since making this morning drink a routine. It helps me fully wake up at 5 a.m. and to stay clear headed from when I leave the house at 7 a.m. and return at 7-8 p.m. It helps me to recover from running without sore hips or knees (not that I have that yet, but as a preventative measure). And overall, it helps me not to crave sugar quite as much. These are just aspects I’ve taken notice to since before! Also, the taste is really not bad… just takes some getting used to. 🙂

Stress Free Meal Prep

Happy Friday friends!

It’s a wonderful day to simplify eating healthy.

Have you ever gotten home late from the office, too exhausted to cook, so you eat the entire family size bag of Doritos and 8 ice cream sandwiches? If this is you, you’re in the right place! I read an article on Mark Zuckerberg once that said he wears the same type of shirt and pants everyday to eliminate one decision from his day. Think about how draining it can be to make hundreds of small decisions throughout the day, wouldn’t it be nice to eliminate 3 or 4?

Yes, I’m talking about your meals! Meal prepping is a system that prevents your junk food cravings from taking over and makes for a more relaxing night after work as your food just needs to be nuked for a few minutes. Check out this free guide my boyfriend helped me create to make healthy eating more enjoyable for you.

*There will be another blog / ebook partnered with this inclusive of what food goes into each food group component discussed in this ebook (fruit, veggie, starch, protein, and fat sources and their overlap).
